Favorite Albums of 2008

Why? – Alopecia
A square peg in a round hole. The voice of my generation, whatever that means.

Flying Lotus – Los Angeles
Sounds like the future. A dust caked, rust colored future emanating from the city of angels.

Thee Oh Sees – The Masters Bedroom is Worth Spending a Night In
The world’s best post-psychedelic garage rock band. Lower Hater por vida.

The Sick Wid It Umbrella – The Machine
Hyphy gets bass and abuses the synths. Makes you drive slow.

The Dodos – Visiter
As a former San Franciscan I hold a special place for this album. This list is getting very Bay Area heavy.

Adult. – Let’s Feel Bad Together
The title sums it up. Completely ruins your dance floor.

The Cool Kids – The Bake Sale
Sounds like a summation of the entire blog-o-sphere. Makes me think of a distilled hipster Ice Cube for some reason.

Plastic Little – Welcome to the Jang House
The Cool Kids peddle nostalgia. Plastic Little peddles bad taste!

Grouper – Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill
I like her previous album better. This is heavy reverb guitar strumming womb music; good for night time listening

High Places – 03/07 – 09/07
Not the debut full length but a collection of odds and ends which is better. I imagine this is being played in a lot of co-ops.

Department of Eagles – In Ear Park
I’m a bit biased here.
