If you’ve been in Los Angeles lately you might have noticed one or two of these paste-ups by MBW/it’sawoderful-world. I think they are horrible. At first I though it was some sort of corporate marketing campaign, but it turns out he/she/them have been active in the Los Angeles street-art community for some time. Their style of paste-up portraits is all fine and dandy, but their choice of subject leaves you scratching your head.
They also use portraits of Gene Simmons, Andy Warhol, Paris Hilton, Kanye West, Muhammad Ali, Madonna, Biggie Smalls, Mike Tyson, Mother Teresa, Shakespeare, Robert Dinero, Salvador Dali, Snoop Dogg, Christopher Reeve, Heath Ledger, Abraham Lincoln, Bob Marley, Marilyn Monroe, Miles Davis, Martin Luther King Jr., Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Keith Richards, and Bruce Springsteen in their work.
Using such mainstream figures is well… boring.
