Tao Lin

September 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Love him or hate him, Tao Lin is on the internet. Reader or depressing books and writer of non-passive sentences. He has one novel, one story-collection, and two poetry collections under his belt.

I’m not sure this video is good, but it’s certainly entertaining.

Scenario

Here’s an unreleased version of Scenario by A Tribe Called Quest

Apparently there’s even another version of this song that was lost. From DJ Johnny Juice “A Tribe Called Quest was doing ‘Scenario’. It was me, Dinco, Busta, Jarobi was there – everybody was in that motherfucker – Dres from Black Sheep was there, both of ‘em, Chris Lighty, Mase and Pos from De La, all them motherfuckers rhymed on ‘Scenario’. Everybody rhymed on it but Q-Tip, and the best motherfucker on that shit was Posdnuos. He fuckin’ destroyed it, and he ain’t even like the beat! And after he finished rhyming, everybody went back and rewrote their rhymes!”

I love Scenario, it one of the first songs I conscientiously remember that made me want to go and seek out music.

Here’s the album version in case you’ve never heard it.

Notorious

I had high hopes for this movie, but it looks like it’s gone the way of 8 Mile / Get Rich or Die Trying.

Anthony Mackie plays Tupac! He was great in Sucker Free City.

If anything, we have all those awesome open audition videos floating around the internets.

Nadav Kander

Nadav Kander is the raddest photographer I’ve found in a long time. A few of his more stark photos come across as unintentionally, brutally, METAL.

Brilliant Noise

September 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Brilliant Noise by Semiconductor Films is one of the best things I’ve seen in awhile.

“After sifting through hundreds of thousands of computer files, made accessible via open access archives, Semiconductor have brought together some of the sun’s finest unseen moments. These images have been kept in their most raw form, revealing the energetic particles and solar wind as a rain of white noise. The soundtrack highlights the hidden forces at play upon the solar surface, by directly translating areas of intensity within the image brightness into layers of audio manipulation and radio frequencies.”

List of Unusual Deaths

This is unendingly interesting: A List of Unusual Deaths

1862: Jim Creighton, baseball player, died when he swung a bat too hard and ruptured his bladder.

458 BC: Aeschylusa Greek playwright, was killed when an eagle dropped a live tortoise on him, mistaking his bald head for a stone. The tortoise survived.

1998: Every player on the visiting soccer team at a game in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was struck by a fork bolt of lightning, killing them all instantly, presumably because of the metal studs in their shoes.
