Pineapple Express

I’m somewhat excited to see Pinapple Express. It’s nice to see Judd Apatow moving a bit away from those “teen sex comedies” that he’s been churning out lately that have been really bad. It’s also good to see James Franco back in the mix for another mini Freaks & Geeks reunion.

Liz Harris records under the name Grouper. Some lo-fi shoegaze ambient stuff is what you could call it.

After a trip to the local library this weekend, it got me thinking about how great they are to just look at. So with that, I’ve compiled some of my favorite good lookin libraries.

High Places

I’ve been all about this group for a good part of a week now. Nothing groundbreaking, but very much in line with the Animal Collective that the kids all seem to love. I hope they put out a proper full-length soon.

Moon Museum

April 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

On November 22, 1969, two days after the Apollo 12 crew had left the moon–leaving their Intrepid lander behind–and two days before they arrived back on earth, the New York Times reported the existence of a secret, miniature art museum that had been smuggled onto the surface of the moon.

This Moon Museum consists of six contemporary art drawings of the time, that were miniaturized and baked onto an iridium-plated ceramic wafer measuring just 3/4″ x 1/2″ x 1/40″, with the assistance of engineers at Bell Labs. It was secretly installed on a hatch on a leg of the Intrepid landing module with the help of an unnamed engineer at the Grumman Corporation after attempts to move the project forward through NASA’s official channels were unsuccessful.

According to the Times, the artworks included are: Rauschenberg’s wavy line; David Novros’ black square bisected by thin white lines, a computer-generated drawing by Forrest Myers; a geometric mouse by ClaesOldenburg, a template pattern by John Chamberlain, and a drawing of a penis (which he said was a scribble of his initials) by Andy Warhol.

David Choe

David Choe will be one of those artists that is mythologized through the sands of time. After 5 years in the making, we finally get to see this documentary about him, which will no doubt go a long way toward affirming his stature in the art world, and probably inspire a bunch of kids when its released in June.
